Teaching Philosopy

Essence plans to use her BFA degree in Dance & Educational Minor(s) as well as her training at the University of Florida to become a creative dance educator for At-risk, homeless, and fostered youth to serve in underprivileged, underrepresented, and low-income communities.

 

Essence is aware of the growing epidemic of minority student drop outs and violence in low-income areas, as well as students who are unable to partake in extra curriciular activities due to finances or life circumstances.

 

She strives to make a difference in the lives of at-risk and disadvantaged youth by encouraging dance and creativity as a healthy and therapeutic outlet.

Essence's teaching practices include a combination of theater, dance, improvisational techniques, and curriculum that will keep students engaged mentally and physically. The various exercises will promote and foster an atmosphere that encourages overalll wellness, positive self esteem and awareness and freedom of creative expression that will mold the student for future educational and artistic endeavors.
